Default accelerator/power Problem

accelerator/power Problem
I have a
1998/1999
S reg
Discovery 1
safari
Automatic
2.5 cc
Diesel

When im driving the land rover i will get to a speed im happy with and Bring my foot up untill there is just enough pressure on the pedal to keep the disco at the same speed (Cruising) .
This is when the engine will loose power and a (check Engine) light will come on.
to get the light to go out and get power back all I have to do is press down or release the pedal a bit and every thing is ok.

If you have any advice it would be most appreciated

You shouldn't need to take your foot completely off the accelerator pedal. Just letting up until you stop gaining speed should be enough.
This sounds like it could be a turbo, intercooler or a dirty air filter.
If it were a fuel problem then it would have less power while trying to speed up not cruise at a steady speed.

Thank you Spike
I had the air filter changed last month.
What is the best way to find out if the Turbo or intercooler are to blame.

The intercooler would need to be checked for leaks or a blockage, my Sprinter had a stone go through the intercooler and it had no power at all because of a pin sized leak.
As for the turbo it too would need to be checked out.
I do not know how to check these things other than pulling the air tubing off of the turbo and checking the turbo bearings for excessive wear.
