Alternator ?!?!?!?!?!??!
Help!!!! I am a fairly new Disco I owner, and am just getting my feet wet. I have owned other british cars, so fighting with vehicles isn't new to me, but I just don't know where to start with this one.
I bought this vehicle at an auction and it didn't start. I put in a new battery, jumped it, and drove away. I noticed a note on the windshield that stated it needed a new battery and alternator. I thought, OK, we'll start with the battery. sure enougha few days later, the battery was dead again. I replaced the alternator, charged the battery, and in a couple of days, the battery was dead again. Took the new alternator to where I bought it, and the voltage regulator showed bad. They gave me a replacement and I installed it. I was very careful not to have power to the cables until the install was done, however in a couple of days, another dead battery. I am assuming another dead voltge regulator, but there must be something in the electrical system doing this. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jerry

You need to take the truck to the shop and have them test both the battery and alternator for a load test.
Are you sure you have the belt going the correct direction on the alternator?
Voltage range for a Rover is 13.6 to 14.4 volts.
