Default Another n00b Q re: oil flavor

So what brand(s) of oil does a '94 Disco generally like to drink? It's my daily driver, but isn't driven terribly far everyday- and now that it's motorcycle season here in central NY (well, almost) it's going to spend a lot of time holding the driveway in place.

TIA!

Some people use a full synthetic 15/50 or similar others use just an everyday run of the mill major brand oil, I use a Synthetic blend 15/50 because it is cheaper than full synthetic and I have done over 210,000 klm motor is still good, however we don't have snow and ice weather in australia so recommended oil grades may be a bit different in the US.

But the real secret is being fastidious about regular 5,000 klm oil changes with a new filter.

A good 10/40 like Castrol GTX or their partial synthetic is a good way to go, make sure to use a good filter like a K&N 3001 and because of the age of your truck, change the oil every 3000.
If this is a new truck for you consider doing a good engine crank case flush before the next oil change, this will clean uo the engine permote better oiling and pressure.

This is a new-to-me truck, as a matter of fact, but I haven't done a crank case flush before. Would you mind elaborating?

As to routine oil changes, since I don't do a lot of miles, I usually do oil+fltr every 2500m or every 3-4 months, whichever comes first. I only put on 2500m all of last year in my old truck (but ~14k on my bikes!) so I hit the time limit before I hit the distance limit.

Thanks again!

Sounds like your oil changes are great.
As for the crank case flush, if you want to get years of builb up out of your engine, drain it, but 6 qts of ATF back into the engine and let it idle for at least 20 minutes, DON'T DRIVE IT. Afterward drain it out and do your regular oil change. We did this in the shops for years to do a quick internal clean, brings up the oil pressure and improves oil flow for less wear.
