Default Audio distortion - amp or radio?

I recently bought a 00 Disco with the HK option and CD changer and I thought the audio sounded fine for a day. But now I notice distinct "clipping" like distortion in all modes, FM, AM, CD, even at low volume. I've tried refreshing the radio and amp connectors, but no better.

Does anyone know if this is typically a radio or amplifier failure?

P.S. It actually uses a GROM USB3 setup for HD radio and Bluetooth that plugs into CD port, but thats not the source. I unplugged it and it still sounds distorted with stock FM and AM.

Have you turned off the spacialisation setting? It's there among the tone controls.

Yep, I tried all settings including spatial mode on/off. It's difficult to describe, but imagine turning up your volume until you hear cracking and distortion, but in this case it's present at all volume levels.
