Default A.B.S ON A MK 1 DISCO

hi im hoping some one can sergest a way of sorting or a direction were i can go with this prob.
iv got a 3.9 lpg v8 disco late mk1, its not being very nice to drive as the abs is not performing as it should, i can be doing less than 10 mph when this happens, i will be slowing down for a junction and put foot on pedal and the abs jumps the pedal and i don't stop, 3 times this has happend and the last time it did this i made contact with some poor old pensioners hedge and left a big hole in it. what can be dun were can i look for a fault and should i just unplug this and do away with it altogether.
if it would be cheaper should i remove the abs unit a re'plum the brakes as a normal system.
would it be wise and better for the car. and my nerves.

Don't waste your time, go have a mechanic test the system, there are too many things thaqt can be going wrong.
