HELP!!
I can't get the hood to open anymore and both of my headlights now need to be replaced, my oil is due for a change...
The passenger side latch releases but the drivers side does not release. I've tried pulling on the cable with a pair of piers but I got nothing.

Any ideas?

A sawzall is definitely overkill, a mini sledge and good prybar will be adequate if properly struck from the appropriate vector. Don't be hesitant, and let wife hold the prybar so you don't hit yourself with the sledge.

 

I had a similar problem and found WD40 to be the answer. I doused the cable in the driver's side footwell and the release mechanism up front. I think the cable must have been seizing up. Works like a charm now.
