Question chirping noise when accellerate

When I accellerate there is a (loud now) chirping noise. Began some months back. Took into mechanic. He said it was an exhaust leak. One muffler and exhaust pipe later the noise still exists. Found out the mechanic is basically deaf. He now can't figure out what this noise is caused by. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. This is a 2000 Disco II

At high RPMs or at acceleration only? If it is an exhaust leak you can duplicate it without going down the road and have somebody rev the engine while you listen for the leak , you can use a long stick held to your ear or a stethoscope. I would suspect manifold gaskets.

If it is only replicated as you travel down the road you might be looking at a drivetrain issue. Bad u joints on the driveshaft perhaps.

Chirping is both during acceleration AND while in park and rev the engine. It has become progressively louder.

squeaky belt or bad idler pully?? Try a little WD40 and see if it changes (won't last long)

I've heard that chirping can be an indicator of the front drive shaft getting ready to go. Have you figured it out yet?

No, I have not figured out yet. Have to find a more knowledgeable mechanic who isn't deaf and can hear the chirping. Have it parked for now. Is "drive shaft getting ready to go" a pricey fix? Girlie here...not a mechanic:

Not your driveshaft if it chirps at idle, that is why I asked. But pricey to swap, no. Pricey if it breaks before, likely.
250ish for a serviceable aftermarket. Luck8 and others online
2much for ome lr junk replacement.

Does your chirp seem louder at cold start up?
Do you have sai?

Since it chirps when in park and I rev it or while I am driving that indicates it is NOT driveshaft? I am confused by the" Pricey if it breaks before, likely.

No chirp unless I rev or while I am driving. What is sai???
Like I said before, not a mechanic...girlie here! But I like my Rover and I want to do what I can within reason to keep it alive.
thanks!

Sorry yes your case indicates that the shaft is not the chirp.
