So, you have a ho;e in the outer diff housing, was it caused from an impact or diff your diff gernade?
If you have to replace the 3rd. member, that is pretty easy and no speial skills are involved, have you found one yet?

I am not for sure what cause it some shops have told me a rock others have said that the differential gears caused it. I found one on ebay from a range rover dealer. would you have any suggestions on other places to go.

I would stop driving it then before you break an axle also.
What sort of prices have you found for a used 3rd. member?
