Default Coolant leak

I recently bought a 03 disco 2. I have noticed that is is leaking coolant and didnt worry to much about it till yesterday is got to be a steady leak while its not running. I traced it to the front driver side of the motor right below the water pump i ran my hand all the way around the water pump and did not find any water. it seems to be running down the front of the motor where the timimg cover meets the block and down to the oilpan. Where should I check for a leak next? how do I know if the water pumps bad?

3 ways the water pump can leak......the water pump has a weep hole. it is supposed to drip as a warning telling you that the inner seal is going out. also the hole is not 100% so coolant can leak from the outer seal as well. finally the gasket can leak also.

the front cover can also be your problem. that gasket can leak.

uv dye additive will help you locate the source. a pressure tester would also help

the coolant runs thru the front cover into the water pump, if the front cover leaks it can send coolant into the oil pan

front cover and water pump are quite common.

borrow a cooling system pressure tester and see if it is coming out of the weep hole in the bottom of the water pump of the front gasket cover.

if it is the front cover you will want to consider the shape of your timing chain and oil & WATER pumps while you are in there.

you system is under pressure for quite a while after you shut your truck down, it could hold pressure for over an hour

I had the exact same problem with mine in December. I just like you thought it may have been the weep hole but then I started pulling things apart. This is when I noticed coolant sitting on the top of the valley gasket. Next thought was that the valley gasket was leaking but when I pressure tested the system a stream of coolant was coming out the top of the front cover right under where the alternator sits. Chance is you are having the same problem. But make sure to pressure test the system.
