Coolant leak: I think I can
So I have had my new Disco for about three weeks and I really like driving it…But I want to LOVE driving it. It’s all the little things that are driving me crazy. Paint peeling here, loose body molding there, etc... Had to temporarily reroute the throttle body heater (thanks for the tip, DiscoMike), needs new brakes and rotors, started the 60K service (SES light finally turned off and fuel mileage improved with new air filter) I want to upgrade the plugs and wires (+4’s and the Magnacor wires) next weekend. Now I have that waterfall sound behind the glove box and coolant leaking between the engine and tranny. Well, I’m keeping an eye on the coolant level until I can have it pressure tested but if it is a vally pan gasket or head gasket, would it be difficult to repair? I have to admit I’m a little intimidated by this job, it no ’86 CJ7, but if my Disco has to go to the shop for every little thing, well couldn’t keep it. I read these forums quite a bit and realize that Discoveries have a lot of common problems (bad oil pumps, coolant leaks, etc) but I’m hoping with a little TLC, I can have an awesome ride. I’m not a pro mechanic, but I can read and turn a wrench. I just felt the need to vent, but any suggestions would be appreciated. I hope to have all these things buttoned up before the wife gets home in 2 weeks.
