Default Disappearing Oil

Purchased my 04 DII with about 18K on it last July. Been changing the oil regularly, but twice (in the last 10K or so miles), the oil light blinks (once or twice), then goes off. Upon checking it, there is no oil showing on the stick ~ 4 qts low! She's not smoking;no leaks when parked; no visible oil or burnt oil residue on intake, heads, etc.Any thoughts?

Intake gasket between trhe top and bottom intake manifold.
You better start checking it on a regular basis.
Is it still under warranty, if so have them start up a work order and let them check it on a regular basis.

As a service manager, I have seen brand new vehicle have to be pull off a transport a our dealership cause the engine or tranny failed before it hit the lot, so why not a gasket?

Thanks for the input fellas'. Not sure what you mean socal....I'm rather inept when it comes to this stuff. I've NEVER seen any oil spots on the ground (park in the same places), and as far as I can determine, I don't see where oil has been bowing onto the intake or head and burning-off. I was gonna take it to Tyson's Land Rover (VA) as it's still under warranty (~35k now), but I was thinking I'd first take it to an independent rover shop and get their take so I have some idea BEFORE I go. I'll keep you guys updated.

Back to my original thought, are you in warranty, if so go in and let them set you up with an oil consumption program where they will track it if necessary.

Yeah Mike , still covered by the original LR warranty! "Oil consumption program" eh, I'll mention that when I take it. Guess they"ll let me know the reason BEFORE the warranty runs out, right ? Thanks again!

normal oil consumption is 1000-1500k miles per quart, check the dipstick and do the math
