Disco 2 Rear Bumper Advice?

Disco 2 Rear Bumper Advice?
The plastic shell that covers my rear bumper is cracked from dry rot and uv damage. Now Pieces are beginning to fall off. Can I just remove the plastic cover and be rid of it? If I do that will my factory turn signal/tail lights stay in the remaining steel bumper?
