Default Disco 2 Spark issues..

Hello Folks
New guy here on the forums. I picked up a 2000 discovery 2 yesterday. It has no spark. Won't start. 140k
Things I checked: firewall switch, pulled a plug to check for zap, no spark. New plugs and wires.
Previous owner had run the machine, noticed sputtering and check engine light, arcing on the plug wires then in the rain, the machine died, never to run again.
he threw new wires on there and new plugs as well. Old plugs weren't bad at all.
I went back today ( 1.5 hour trip ) and pulled the crank position sensor and cleaned/dried it real good. No luck for me.
Is there a chance that I can just replace the ckps and be fine or will it be more than that? I can either rent a tow dolly and bring it back to go in depth or just replace the part and fix it there. Is there a way to test the CKps? Is this so common that I may as well replace it? Could the ECU be an issue?
Thanks for all your help in advance, running low on money after this and am on the wire for time!

what plugs, wires, battery are in your truck? Its most likely the crank sensor failed. its common on our trucks.

just wanted to add that you should not dolly this rig as it is full time 4x4 and it would probably do serious damage to the transfer case.

Yeah, plan to either use a 4-wheel dolly (and remember what the thing *weighs*), or pull the half-shaft on whichever end you're leaving on the ground.

(That's enough, isn't it, guys?)

You can have a failed Crank sensor and not show a code for it. I would replace it and you'll probably be OK, pretty common issue on our engines.

Thanks folks. I did pick up a new crank sensor. Oddly enough, I searched around a bit, napa and the foriegn auto parts stores wanted 130.00 for it, autozone got me for 65.00 ( with nys tax) and gave me a two year unlimited warranty on the part. 2 years, if the part goes bad, bring it back for a replacement.
For the same bosch unit!

I'll be taking the 1.5 hour drive out there to put the sensor in today

Nothing. Put the ck position sensor in, I'm in the parking lot checking it out now. Still no spark. What else could it be?? Wires are on correctly, everyhi g else seems right.
