Post Disco 3 2008 2.7 TD V6 279000KM

Hi guys, driving home on Monday night I hear this noise coming from the motor, it sounds like leaking exhaust. I pull over and now it sounds like a knocking noise coming from the engine. I turn off and check the oil and water. No warning lights were on, temp was ok etc. Oil and water all good, no leaks. The knocking noise is not there at low rmp but as the rpm increases the loader the knocking noise gets. I decide to try push on home at low speed but I don't get very far. The knocking noise gets loader and as I pull over the engine cuts out. A quick touch on the ignition lets me know the engine is turning but with a lot of noise. I get the vehicle home on a flat bed. Tuesday a pull the timing cover off, all looking good. Next I drop the sump. Well there I find a large piece of metal and a smaller piece. I also find some plastic pieces inside the oil pick up. I'll attach some photos, hopefully somebody can tell me what I'm looking at. I put a spanner on the crank and turned the motor while looking up into the engine from below. I cant see much but the motor turns. I took the pieces to the local LR dealer to see if they could assist, (tell me where the pieces could be from) the guys says the big piece of metal could be a balancing weight from the crank and could be a broken crank. the plastic pieces he says could be from a rail/guide or the oil pump? I'm no mechanic, a little technical minded but I can help myself with a bit of guidance and help. (if its not to complicated) Can anybody ID the pieces or point me in the right direction? I'm thinking my next step should be to remove the oil pump. I hoping and praying its not a broken crank or B/E bearings that have turned. I'll appreciate some help. Thank you

Your best bet is going to be to open it up the sump and have a look.
