discovery 2001 ,spark plug question
hi,,I am new to the landrover forum, and I recently bought my self a 2001 landrover discovery v8.
i am very pleased with the landrover, but have a spark plug question.
recently I replaced the spark plugs, and I saw online I can use the
BKR6ES spark plugs. but, I still had a couple of sets of BKR6EKU (from other application). the difference I see is that they are double ground.
I installed these in my discovery, and i must say they made a big difference..
car is performing great,,
but,did I do the right thing,or is it better to not use the double grounded plugs??
cheers

What brand plug are you talking about, most of us may not go by part #?
If you still have the old grey factory plug wires, you should replace them also cause they never did hold up well.
What about the rest of the services, have you done a major on it yet, if not, look at the top of the D2 section for my major service list and do it all, including replacing or rebuilding the front drive shaft if your does not have 1 grease fitting on each of the 3 u-joints, or it will fail and can destroy your tranny.

thanks for the info,,
one more question, its for a friend of mine who also owns one.
when he starts his discovery ,engine cold,,it will sputter, backfire, but as it warms up it runs great.
its a landrover discovery 2000 v8 also..
we scanned the boardcomputer, its gave both 02sensors need replacement.
all the other stuff is ok.no codes.
could this also be fuel filter related?he never changed it as he did not wanted to touch the weird looking hose clamps that go onto the filter.

we found out today, took out his plugs(new),and they were gapped at 0.4 mm.
book states at least 1 mm. so gapped them all,put them back. the hesistation /backfires are gone. did not know this makes such a difference.
I changed my plugs to britpart sparkplugs, properly gapped. runs great.have greased all the nipples under the frame and shafts. good to go.
great forum, instant response,,we like it very much.
fuel filter: looking at the car from front, under the frame left side, there is a cannister like box.3 hoses connected to it.is this the filter.?

Some engines will come with a double electrode plug if the utilize a wasted spark design. Basically this is a way to simplify a distributor-less ignition system, they will fire the spark plugs in pairs, once during the combustion, and once at some other time when it won't interfere. This can cause the spark plugs to wear faster. Some engines will have dual platinum plugs to make them last longer, some engines might come with dual electrode plugs (like the Toyota 3.4L V6).
The D2 uses a wasted spark design, but for the cost difference, you can probably stick with conventional non-platinum, single electrode plugs, and just replace them slightly more often than the overpriced platinum plugs that the D2 came with from the factory.
