Default Do you work on your own car?

Just wondering to what extent people on this forum do their own repairs. My hope is to do most of my own work.

My rover has only been to the shop for alignments and tries. Everything from engine rebuild to brakes is done by me.

I think most of us do most if not all their own work. (I’m speaking from a Disco 1 or 2 perspective).

Unless it is a situation where I'm stuck (i.e. fuel pump goes bad when traveling), I do it myself.

Things I don't have the equipment to do, IE machine work, tire mounting, etc I will pay for but any prep is done by me. My BMWs can be aligned with a tape measure and a string but I too have paid to have the Discos aligned. Apart from that and state inspections, no one touches my cars.

I do all my own work unless it requires machining. I also prefer to outsource transmission rebuilds and diff building to someone who specializes in that sort of thing. I've built some motors but not all. Depends on how complex the motor build is and how many special tools I'll need to do it. My 911 for example, I'm planning to outsource to a pro but I might tackle the LR if needed in the future.

I do all my own repairs, but I do leave the AC evap/fill to a good friend with a $$$$ machine.

I couldn't afford these things if I didn't repair them myself
