Exclamation Driving Without a Front Driveshaft in a 2003 DII SE7

Hiya,

Not sure if this is the right forum. Feel free to move it if the topic is better served in the Discovery forum.

Anyhow, I would like to drive a 2003 Discovery II SE7 home. Home is 110 miles away. Can I do that without a front driveshaft? The front driveshaft is wonky/loose (That is the best description you can have, for now). Can I just unbolt it at the flanges & drive home?

Is there a transfer case clutch and/or actuator that this would negatively affect?

Why in God's holy name did they make 4x4/4x2 not selectable?

I don't think it will move, because it does not have CDL. If it was any other model except the 03, you could lock it in. I know by experience. my sons 04 spit the front shaft, we removed it on road, locked it in 4wheel, and he crept home. It was sunday, so we removed my 03 front shaft and installed in his and i tried to just move mine further up the driveway, and would not move, it started rolling backwards.

Cheers for the input. I ordered a Lucky8 unit! Evidently, the '03 is one of the few years the TC did not include a manual override (evidently something on top of the TC you could turn a few clicks to manually engage locked 4x4 (to bypass the actuator/mechanism)). A 2003 Discovery with no front driveshaft will not go. The driveshaft with the least resistance gets the power.

In Aus 99-02 didnt have cdl but some still had the internal shaft to activate it, from 2003 it was re-instated along with the lever.

2003=no cdl=no move without front driveshaft unless aftermarket mod with cdl.
