Default Driving without the front propeller shaft?

00 disco

The front shaft is off to be replaced with greaseble ujoints (or replaced entirely) so is now RWD and the diff is locked.

Is it safe to drive around like that? How about if the diff is unlocked?

Im asking because its supposed to rain all weekend and I only have a motorcycle in the meantime. I can put up with the cold but rain and the resulting overnight ice is definatly a no no for me.

With your center diff locked..you are fine. Just stay out of the gas and just remember all that shared force between two differentials is now going to only one. But it is fine. My wife drove her 01 that way for a couple of days and no harm done. I would be very cautious about getting on any ice with it running on just the rear. You will not go anywhere with the diff not locked.

I drove a DI around for a couple days without the front shaft. Don't do it for an extended period of time though the diff lock isn't really supposed to be on all time (I think disco mike said that).
