electrical problem
So I just replaced the fuel pump in my 99 disco 1. And you may be suprised to hear that this is the 3rd fuel pump in 3 years. So something seems to be going wrong.
Anyways, the other day my truck started hesitating and losing power while driving. It got so bad that I could hardly drive anymore. the harder I pushed the gas, the more it wanted to cut out. The only way to get it to run was to gradually....very gradually....push the accelerator to get it up to speed.
Anyways, i took a look under the hood today while it was running and noticed that in 3 different spots behind the engine, there were sparks flying from the spark plug wires which coincided with the engine stuttering each time there were sparks....now the spark plug wires are NOT exposed, and from what i could tell it was arcing over 1/4-1/2 inch gaps on random places.
Im not good with electrical stuff, so any help i can get with this would be great.
As a side note, each time i replaced the fuel pump it costs MEGA bucks. This time i went to NAPA and got a brand new 1993 Astrovan fuel pump rated 70psi. 150 bucks brand new....works like a charm....plugged right in. my mechanic warned me against this, but i cant afford dropping 700$+ on a fuel pump.
Any ideas as to what could be causing the short? like i said im bad with electronics, so walk me through this if you can....i have a multimeter if that helps.
thanks guys,
Cheers.
