Default Fuel Problem

Not sure exactly the issue. Have a 2000 disco II and the first time you start it that day it seems to not get enough fuel. I have to put it in neutral and touch the gas to keep it going, then once it settles out and I begin to drive it will sometimes sputter a bit one I push the gas peddle down. The rest of the day it will be fine. Need some help.

You should plan on removing the rubber air intake hose from the throtle body, look up inside the throttle body at the large buttery fly, spray it with carb cleanerand clean all the oil build up from both sides of the plate as well as the inside of the housing, I use a tooth brush for those hard to reach areas. Once that is cleaned then spray some cleaner into the air bypass to the air slide that controls the idle.
Put it all back together and start it up. Should be better, If not you may need to spray more cleaner into the bypass hose.

I think it could be the mass air flow meter. Is there anywhere I could get a tech manual, I'm not too familiar with working on cars.

Not being to familiar with vehicles as you stated, take the word of someone who has been around the shop for nearly 30 years, or keep on guessing.
Maf's won't cause what you are experiencing and would also throw a code.
Your call??

Sorry Mike, I definately trust your experience. I just found the paperwork from the dealer and they gave me a quote for the MAF replacement. The service engine light has been on for a while but it has been running smooth up until a couple weeks ago so I never had it fixed. I guess it has been showing codes for the MAF meter. I found a part online for $129, but I don't know how to install it and the garage quoted me at $410. Can you help?

The shop is getting deep into you pockets for a 10 minute job.
The Maf is located on the air intake hose, behind the air filter, all you have to do is remove it from the hose, unplug it, reinsatll the new one then go find someone with a good scanner that can read and clear the codes.
Make sure to write down the code numbers before clearing them.
If you have any problems after that and cleaning the throttle body, get back to me.
Go for it.
