Searching cragslist I cam across a 95 Discovery 5 speed for 500 bucks. 4 new tires full tune up etc. But the seller thinks it needs a new transmission. He was driving it and it popped out of gear. Now he says no matter if you have it running or not the shifter has free reign of all gears. It will go into all gears with no hesitation and like the clutch is pressed in. Any idea what would cause this? broke input shaft? Sorry for the horrible spelling; mmy phone keyoard is dying.

 

Yeah, could be broken input shaft. Could be a broken shift linkage too.
If it's in decent shape otherwise $500 would be a good price even needed a new gearbox.
