Default General questions about performance

I am a newbi at this vehical so i have some what may be stupid questions but id like a little imput before i start replacing things that may not need to be replaced. I have a 97 disco 4.0 v8 13X,XXX miles. It drives great in town but as soon as i get it at highway speeds it seems to lack power (between 70-90mph) obviously it is not a race car but i feel like i should be able to go from 70 to 80 when mashing on the accelerator whether im going up a slight hill or just trying to pass but it seems to take a very long time to increase speed once 70 is reached. Is this normal? A tune up is needed and that might fix my problem but i feel like there is a definite lack in power. Anyone else have this issue? How did you fix it? would oversized tires cause this? 265/75R16 (in an attempt to compair apples to apples here, only driven chevy trucks before this so maybe this lack of power is all in my head)

(appologies maybe this rig isnt designed to opperate well at high speeds just figured id ask)

The vehicle is capable of triple digit speed. At about 115 mph the vehicle speed sensor and the ECU decide to prevent you from endangering the vehicle, and begin to cut out the spark. It a'int no bimwah. While others are made to go fast, Land Rover is built to go anywhere.

So if you are maxxing out around 70 but running smooth, consider a test of the fuel pump, there is a test valve on passenger fuel rail. 32-34 PSI expected. Fuel filter is just ahead of right rear tire in wheel arch. PB Blaster first.

Full shop and owner manual set is called the RAVE and is a free download.

Dude, its 16yrs old and has alot of miles on it, its shaped like a office building and weighs as much as a container ship on its way from China full of new shoes, it ain't gonna be fast.
At 90 you're getting gallons per mile not miles per gallon.

Obviously its big, heavy, and old with a lot of miles on it. Like I said I am new to this type of rig and wanted to run this accross you guys with obviously more experience than I have. But it sounds like nothing is too amiss, just normal running conditions. A fuel filter change and a few test should varify. thanks for the help! didnt come with a manual either so thanks for that!!

Does it downshift when you floor it? Maybe the cable has stretched over the years.

Yes it down shifts great. Smooth shifting all the way through, only light that is on is the anti lock (which i cant get off, put a code reader on it OBD II and nothing comes up) just feels like there is nothing there at 70 when im trying to pass. Just bought it though so the guy before me might have not been running premium, so a proper fill up is in order along with a new fuel filter, plugs, wires, all that good stuff

I believe it is around 2.5 (cruising speed) When I accelerate it downshifts into 3rd and the rpms jump to around 4.5
