Default Heater fan problem??? Freelander TD4

Hi,
I have a Freelander TD4, 2001, which developed an intermitted problem with the heater. It started cutting out and switching on intermittently. I traced the problem to a badly burnt up power connector at the based of the fan. This connector costs over 100euro with the wiring harness I was told by landrover! Crazy!!
Its a 2 wire connector, black and green. I did a mc-gyver on it and crimped two push on connectors and they seemed to fit perfectly, but..... the fan works fine except whenthe switch goes to position "4" on the control! Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Tony
