Freelander TD4 injector problems
MY parents are curretnly running Freelander Td4 which is two and a half years old and has covered a meer 40,000 miles. About three weeks ago they were having problems starting it and it turned out after a bit of testing that three of the four injectors had failed and required to be changed. Has anyone one else come across the same problem or could this be a one off?

Td4 Injector problems
Hi there
If this is any help !
My 2005 as had a occasional starting problem, spinning and trying to fire up, it always started, and on the odd time there was a type of running out of fuel feeling ! only for a second or two then all was fine again ?
As A engineer myself I figured something was giving me a warning to sort it out sooner better than later...
As I am at the moment sorting out a place in northern Spain I took it to a very good diesel garage I have used before.
He checked the first thing ...good old injector leaking past, but they where all fine, next he took it to his friend at a local Landrover agent and stuck it on there machine, up came the problem "Fuel pressure sensor".
That was the start of the cost's....new sensor is a update which comes complete with the wiring harness about Ģ400.
All was well till the engineer took the old unit out, being a very good engineer he works with very clean diesel catch trays ect....and there in the drained fuel was loads of very small bit's of metal ?
He carried on to find where that had come from, which would be the main problem once found.
Three of the injectors where in a real bad condition, I could not get the plunger out of any of the three...
So all four injectors need reconditioning...
So it seems that the injectors (probably started with one and that naffed the others)where chewing up little bit's and they where getting pumped around under very high pressure and that damaged the fuel sensor.....
Long story and over a grand later..
So the thing is be very clean when you strip down the fuel system and drain the diesel into a s/steel catch tray..a lot of people just change one quick injector, or a second hand sensor, which is great if you can get away with it.
If we had not caught this now, I would have been looking at new injectors and a new high pressure pump, with labor well over another grand.
I hate being negative so I hope that mine was a one off ? but to just drain the fuel manifold and check the fuel for contaminates.
Love the Freelander, just wish it was cheaper to maintain.

I'm experiencing a steering wheel vibration at 50 to 70 mph. Have had it checked out at my local garage who replaced centre prop bearing and bush on the diff mount, but problem still exists. Took it to a LR specialist who put it through a diagnostic check (cost me Ģ150 !!) but nothing untoward showed up. Suggested it may be injector problems but to replace would cost circa Ģ1000. The vibration starts at 50 to 70 mph but immediately goes away when I take my foot off the accelerator. Would welcome some advice !!
