Our LR4 is having some issues. Wife was out running some errands and when she went to leave it started, would run for a few minutes then stall out (all electronics would stay on. After an ignition cycle it would start back up, then stall again a few minutes later. Only codes thrown were an evap code that we already knew about and now a P2279 code. Took it to the shop and they said it needs the dreaded timing chain or new engine. The tech said he couldn’t guarantee the timing chain job would fix the stalling issue but of course said the new engine would. My question is, wouldn’t it throw more than an air intake leak code if the timing were bad? The wife loves the car but I’m not sure I’m ready to drop this much money into a nearly 12 year old vehicle.

i called another shop looking for another opinion and they said they trust the shop it’s at and if it were indeed the same conclusion they refer out to the dealership for those issues.

 

Turned out to be the in-tank fuel pump, so crisis averted.
