Default Help Please!! Disco II losing water!!!

I have owned my Disco for about two months now and ever since I got it, it wants to run hot. I reacently changed the water pump and the thermostat (which someone had taken the insides out of). The problem is is that still is losing water from the resevoir. It show on the gauge that it is running at the right temp. but you can smell the anti-freeze when you are sitting still. It has no leaks except for it coming out at the over flow.

Any ideas?

Don't drive it any more before you do a coolant pressure test to find and fix the leak. You most likely have a failed head gasket.

dont bother bleeding the system. with 130k your head gaskets are probably shot. bring it to a mechanic and have him test it.

Well as a matter of fact they are. Well atleast one is. Going to replace it this weekend. Luckily my neighbor is a mechanic and he said he would help me do the whole tear down and rebuild. Just bought the kit with all the gaskets for $180.

Thank you for the help!!!

make sure to use new head bolts and install a new thermostat when u do the head gaskets also. if you have not pu 8mm magnecore wires it would be a perfect time to run those as well.

If you pull the heads off and any of the middle two cylinders are washed out. As if the were cleaned real good your gonna need a block. It's very common to have coolant leaking past the sleeve. I've seen lots of those. If you have that.....bend over! Blocks are expensive.
