Thumbs down Help with shifting problem, please

I recently purchased a '94 LR Discovery, very clean and runs well.... However, when shifting 4WD to "OFF" position, the car will drive well, then suddenly pop out , losing all drive power, unable to even make it up a freeway ramp. When this happens, an icon appears on the dash, lookis like two axles and 4 wheels, and I have to stop the truck and start over. Is this something I am doing wrong? Please help!

There is no "OFF" position on these vehicles. They are full time 4WD. If you are moving the lever to the left, which turns on the symbol you describe on the dash, you are locking the center differential, WHICH IS NOT MEANT TO BE USED ON DRY PAVEMENT!!

Did this vehicle come with an owners manual? Please read the "operating" section if it did. If it did not, please get a manual online.
