Default How bad is she??

Hey everyone,

here’s the quick and dirty... 2001 Discovery SE, 146k on the clock, loads of solid maintenance records. installed 180 tstat last week, been running consistent temps of 200-204.8 F idle, and 195F on highway, did a proper coolant change and oil change when I did the tstat. I know this is a bit high but temps here in Cincy have been 85-93 F for the last couple weeks.

here’s my question, along with attached Images.... how bad is she? As you can see from the pics, I’m fearing that the head gaskets and valve covers.... the works.... needs to be changed. Is this leaking “normal?” Or is it a sign? Looks like some oil and coolant mixture running down the block. No sitting oil drips on the driveway, no coolant smell, no waterfall noise in the heater core. System is running well despite these oozes.

help!

Could be 'just' a valley pan gasket. Or 'just' valve cover gaskets. Looks more like oil than coolant to me. Unfortunately there is really only one way to find out for sure.

Look up the FV308 PCV upgrade/mod. It will prevent the crankcase from building up to much pressure due to a clogged OEM baffle.

You are putting the cart way ahead of the horse... Slow down, clean that engine up, drive it for a while, she will let you know the problems. If it ain't broke, don't fix it applies here.
