Oooo.. this is an easy one - I may be able to handle it

Sometimes if I sweet talk my Rover while driving down the road things get better…. not always but sometimes...

Otherwise, if you're desperate, you can go to Autozone or an auto parts store, borrow their Ultragauge and reset the codes yourself. It’s not hard – just a lot of button pushing and more sweet talking

Autozone is always good fun. They loan out all sorts of interesting objects. Try it - I love that place!

If you don't like to sweet talk your rover, and hate autozone because their jingle makes you want to "Get into the zone", you can try a hard reset. Doesn't always work, but sometimes.

Remove cables from battery, jump a cable from positive to negative cable, being careful not to touch the battery and leave it there for 10 min. This should discharge all the capacitors and erase the CEL.... Should.

Sweet talking is a lot more fun than electro-shock therapy...

Well; went to advance auto, they said, no problem, but when they hooked it up, it said # 5 misfire still and also now a #1 misfire; what do you guys think?
To clarify; the service engine soon light is on, not sevice engine light.

I've never owned or worked on a Freelander.

is it a coil pack or individual could on each plug?

if individual, change a misfiring coil to a non misfiring location. If it follows it's the coil. If not it's either clogged injector or plug.
