Thats a really good question, don't know about the timing, would the engine check light come on if it was out of sync?? And injector stutter no there appear not to be. Thanks for that. Also would it come up as a fault code if the OBD was scaned??

Maybe you have an injector stuck open.

On my 96 disco I always had a strong smell of gas in my oil. When changing hoses the one from the plenum to the fuel regulator was wet with gas.Changed the regulator and was good to go.

G'day pjbbz

If you have a codes scan with either the LR kit (forget the name), Nanocom or Hawkeye they should pick up any ignition issues and also ECU problems with injectors, fuelling and ignition etc. It might also be worth a cylinder compression test whilst you ate at it as that may reveal and differences in head pressures and should reveal head gasket problems, if any. Good luck
