Default Losing Coolant

My 2003 Freelander runs great, passed three pressure tests, no white smoke, nothing in oil, replaced reservoir and cap, no wet spot on passenger side, no visible leaks underneath, no bubbles in reservoir, does not overheat.

I do not lose coolant when I drive. I only seem to lose coolant when I am done driving or when I am parked for about a couple hours. The amount I lose is the same every time, which is about an inch. The amount of coolant is pretty consistent because I marked the reservoir with a marker. Heats up to the operating temperature fairly quickly, with in a mile of after cold start.

Thanks in advance

Well - it's got to be going somewhere - if there's no drips while hot or cold or immediately after driving my best guess would be it's escaping as steam somewhere - pretty sure you'd either see drips or at least a stain from the additives in the coolant if it was leaking water directly.

Which engine is it? A mate had a similar problem with a V6, I'll ask him what the 'fix' was.

Cheers,

You are going to need to put it up on a lift and track down the leak, no coolant leak is a good leak.

Ok - spoke to my Bud, I think this might help, info is 2nd user here though, so don't shoot the messenger.

Both the KV6 and the K series suffer from heat soaking after switch off - it's more of a problem for the KV6 as it's a transverse 6. This can vapourise coolant in the hotspots, overpressurise the coolant system and force steam out of the system AFTER switch off. About the only way to prevent it is with one of these:

http://www.daviescraig.com.au/main/display.asp?pid=47

A Davies, Craig Electric Water Pump - this will continue to circulate coolant after switch off, preventing heat soak from vapourising coolant in the hot spots and should stop your untraceable 'leak'.

With that said - there's one place that can leak coolant directly, the thermostat housing and outlet pipe. If it's either of these coolant can pool in the centre of the V and gets evaporated the next time you drive - hence no apparent spillage. Apparently its a pig of a job to check

Hope that helps you some,
