LR3 Trans slipping - hope to get smarter before spending $$$$
Hello all - i just joined here to help a damsel in distress - a friend who has a 2006 LR3 with a V8 and just over 100K miles that started having transmission problems. In it's past, it did some horse trailering. Location is an hour outside of Santa Barbara Ca
So I am not an owner (my truck is a 50 studebaker pickup) and cannot help her much. But what I hope to do is to learn a few key items to tell he to ask about when she gets it towed to a transmission shop - hoping to have an ounce of intelligence before shelling out the big $ for a complete rebuild at Leon's in Oxnard
The symptoms as told to me are that when heading up a slight incline, the transmission slips and the engine revs. That's all I have to go on.
Just hoping for a little "check this and check that" lingo for her (or me) when it gets towed to the shop.
Thanks in advance, you're helping a genuinely sweet lady.

Hello
While i didnt have such a serius issue i did have something similiar with my transmission, it would kind of shift a little late between 1 and 2 and in steep hills it would go backwards like if it was in neutral. I noticed a little leak in the transmission sleeve and according to an LR3/LR4 facebook group they advised me that it can be due to low trans fluid. So i refilled the transmission with Ford Mercon SP fluid and that solved a lot of the issues. It still feels a little bit weird but now it's like a 2 out of a 10. Your friends LR3 could just be low on fluid, there is a good YT video (ill leave the link below) that is a good guide, i did it in about an hr with the help of a friend and believe me it is a million times easier than what the YT video makes it seem. The transmission will probably still need a service but refilling the fluid might help while your friend saves up $$ for a mayor service.
