I recently purchased a 1987 LR 90 in Italy and am attempting to register it in Spain. Problem: the VIN shown on the plaque under the hood, stamped on the frame, and shown on the original document shows an 'A' as the tenth character. This character shows the 'year built' for the vehicle, and apparently indicates a unit built in 1983-84. My LR 90 has a 5-speed and a turbo-diesel (not provided in 1983-84, I don't believe). I have no reason to believe that the unit was ever modified. With the 'A' as the 10 character, the Spanish govt. is saying that the unit was actually built in 1983-84, and will not allow it to be registered because it shows '1987' on the original document. Land Rover is 'looking into the problem'. Has anyone ever had this type of issue before? When I bought the unit, all I did was compare the VIN numbers on the car and on the original document. Clearly, I should have dug deeper.
Thanks,
