Default New member, uh, hi! and question

Hi Folks, thanks for having me! I am contemplating the purchase of a 1997 LRI discovery with 149K on her. I spoke to the owner who said he took it for a drive yesterday and it was "shifting funny". He called his mechanic who said it has been sitting too long and that it should be driven -even a little- regularly and that since it's been sitting the "valves are probably having trouble moving". The truck has been sitting since the seller's dad had a stroke, so says the ad, and the price is 1,500 OBO.

Any suggestions would be most helpful since I would like to buy a cheap LRI for my ranch and I understand these are normally pretty bullet proof vehicles.

Many thanks!!

Peter

go to the discovery 1 section of this site and look through the 'tech' section. Most of the typical ailments are there.

A obdII reader would also be helpful. Better if you have one that can read real time data.

Thanks Walt, can you recommend a vendor for parts on the internet. I have lots of connections in the BMW world but none in the LR world and I need some diagrams where I can get part numbers etc. Thanks!

Good 'recyclers' are Paul Grant and Will Tillery

online stores that specialize in Rover parts are (in no particular order)...
British Atlantic
Rovers North
RovahFarm
BP Utah
Lucky 8

... and from the UK, LR Direct.

I've bought things from all of them at some time or another.

You'll find exploded parts diagrams and the service manuals in the links in my signature.
