odd Squeak, new rods and lift, local mechanic.
Long time forum creeper here. First post.
I've picked up a 97 Disco about 6 months ago and have finally taken care of all the check engine issues. So now it's on to some serious TLC.
I had some pretty serious play in my steering and a slight squeak on the driver side since I got it. After inspection I found that the track rod was bent up slightly on the driver side and the panhard rod bushes were totally worn. I went ahead and ordered and installed new reinforced track, panhard and crossrods from Terrafirma as well as a complete OME HD lift while I was at it.
Now the squeak was occurring at speeds of 20+ and sounds rotational as well as having 'accent' squeaks under light steering. When traveling on the highway at speed it was quite frantic with all the small bumps. I had originally assumed that this was being caused by loose joints and bushings in the steering but now after replacing said components the squeaking is much more pronounced and is now constant while moving. Still rotational, lots of accent squeaks on highway hitting little bumps.
One of my concerns or thoughts is that it may actually be coming from the panhard rod mounting arm. I had to remove this to replace the rod and noticed that the bottom mounting point on the arm has a larger opening than the bolt it mounts to and the bolt is not centered to the hole. This just does not look right at all.
I am also thinking that it could be coming from the wheel and is now making more racket due to the firmer suspension and steering. What in the wheel I haven't the foggiest.
So my question is, can anyone deduce what could be causing this squeak and is there supposed to be a bushing in the lower mounting point of the panhard rod mounting arm? I couldn't find anything in the rave manual regarding this part.
I was also wondering if there is anyone out here in the Philadelphia area that would know of a good Rover tech as I could use a good second pair of eyes.
Also, this forum has been a wealth of help over the past few months and I'd be totally lost and broke if it wasn't for this resource so I just want to thank everyone in advance. Cheers.
