Oil filter question

I run a Bosch oil filter from walmart with regular 5w-30. Should I be using something thicker such as 10w or 15w? I'm somewhere in 149k miles, I know for sure oil leak from the valve cover but I figure I'll tackle that with a complete rebuild one day. I know that didn't answer your question but the only engine noise I have is lifters? Under load using the 5w-30.

Luckily, I don't have any engine noise as of yet... I know that problems may soon be coming my way at 158k. I do have a slow leak somewhere and I figured from reading different threads on here that maybe going with a heavier weight would tone that down a bit. I replaced the front seal 3k miles ago. I'm not sure where its leaking from and its not a horrible leak. I try o stay on top of it and replace whats gone with lucas oil stabilizer for the heavier weight. I know that it has 5w40 in it right now from the shop that I used to go to. However... I do not go there anymore because they have caused more damage to the truck than they have fixed my issues. I recently had to have a new transmission put in because the mechanic left the drain plug finger tight. After getting the transmission put in my driver's side 02 sensor threw a code for no input... After replacing it, I found that when they took the exhaust off... they must have been tossing it around the shop because one side (of the o2 sensor) was crushed. (hence no input)
Needless to say, I am starting to do all the work myself and will have a lot of questions

The Mobil-1 301 fits but you needn't pay that premium price. Get a Wix 51515 (NAPA Gold 1515). Excellent filters for about 1/2 the price. Baldwin B2 is another excellent filter.
