P1170 Trouble Code
Fellow Members,
I have seen some of you more experienced members give great advice and ask great questions that seem to lead to accurate repairs, without using the shotgun method of troubleshooting.
Since purchasing the 2003 HSE Range Rover I have been under warranty and still going out of pocket (heavily) everytime the vehicle goes to the dealer. I now have 60,000 happily traveled miles and now the Service Engine Soon light is solid lite, nearly simultaneously to turning 60,000. I took the truck into my local Checker and got the code P1170-According to Checker I have an pre-failure code for the O2 sensor.
Vehicle performance including mileage is great, and unchanged.
I cannot locate this code in any of the searches I have done on this forum. Can anyone help? I would appreciate whatever this vast knowlege pool can provide.
Thanks Members!

According to fixya.com, P1170 = Front heated O2 sensor no inversion (stuck).
It means that the signal isn't increasing like it should. Most likely the O2 sensor is bad. It could also be a short or that the wires aren't plugged in all the way.
I'm unsure, but I am guessing that the vehicle has multiple O2 sensors. Check to see if they are identical parts. If they are switch the two sensors and see if your code changes.

I have the same problem. My gf 04 rr hse has the same code p1170. My mechanic changed all 4 o2 sensor, intake manifold rear cover and check pcv hoses no problem. But still throwing the same code. What could be the problem?
i know this is an old thread but the problems with the p1170 code --is ussually a hairline crack in the weld at the front of the passenger side(bank 1) converter-it spans across the top of the converter and can only be seen with a mirror--it can be fixed with simply running a bead weld acroos the top of the converter(you must drop the exhaust to gain access to it)
or
if your vehicle is still within the 8 or 80 manufacturer's emission warranty the dealer should replace it for free as per the federal gov't

i am in louisville,ky...i used to be at the dealer and have seen this many times --they had problems with this till they put the jag engines in these trucks- i think they extended the warranties for the cats but not too sure
