Default P38 Transfer case ECU

I recently bought a '96 RR 4.0 SE, and I think my transfer case ECU is bad. I found a donor 98 4.0 SE nearby. Both vehicles are autos. My question is this,.....will the ECU from the '98 work on my '96? They appear different because the '98 ECU has the heatsinks on it.

Also, is there anyway to open the rear hatch if the vehicle has no power?

Any help would be appreciated.

From this, http://www.roverlandparts.com/transfercaseecu.aspx, it looks like you will be OK.
You may need to have a dealer program it once it is installed.

Thanks for the input. Anyone know anything about opening the hatch?
