Default Power steering reservoir help

Hi All,
I have an urgent problem. I have just swapped my trusty Landie for a 1986 Rangie. It's great, but I have not seen a power steering reservoir quite like it. Not sure if it is original. It is made of black metal and has a large unscrew lid, without a dip stick. Inside is a spring and some sort of metal float device. The fluid is very low and I don't know how high it should be as I can see no markings. I think I have a leak somewhere, but that's not a problem. Can anyone help?

Yes, it's original. The "jam tin" p/s reservoir was used until the end of Phase 2 4 door production, then the more recent plastic integral filter type reservoir with dipstick lid was used.

AFAIK, the types are interchangeable. The interior of the older type has a strainer to get the large lumps out.

I used to fill to about 85% of capacity. Leaks appeared in the base around the spigots for the hoses, but by and large it was reliable.

Something I do remember from 15 years back when I had 1985 RRC, there was either "Oil Level" or a raised line on the reservoir, perhaps both.

But if topping up was necessary, I allowed 1/2" above the filter as the level.
