To start with this is a laptop hdd. It was taken out of an HP laptop that stopped booting. The LED lights would come on but nothing would apear on the screen, then would power down. HP claims software issue and it is not under warranty

 

I would buy an adapter piece for a laptop hardrive so that you can hook it up to an external enclosure case. After you get it into the external case you can plug it into another computer via usb and run diagnostics and make sure that it boots and works properly.
