Default Rear windows on Disco I - wont work

I have a 99 Disco I - original owner with 180K miles. Two days ago the rear windows failed to operate. Both front widows work - these are on the same fuse. I checked the fuse anyway but they were fine.

Anyone have an idea as to what to check next for troubleshooting this. I tried both the front and door switches - nothing.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Bob

First, I have to ask, how did you get that many miles on your 99, I only have 94,000 miles on mine.
As for your windows, the body ECU that operates your windows has failed, pretty common, but it is usually a cracked circuit board that can be repaired easily.

The window ECM behind the glove box needs to be fixed
or replaced.
This is a normal thing with Disco I's

Mike - mainly all highway miles - although Im an avidoutdoorsman and the Disco has allowed me access to some areas I wouldn't have tried to traverse before. Thanks for your response - If you have a moment - can you describe how to access the ECU and where I can purchase the module (pref. aftermarket) if I cannot determine it can be repaired.

Im an engineer and fairly handy - I've done the bulk of the repairs on the vehicle to date.

Thanks again
Bob

Landzu,
Thanks - you and the others have been very helpful. This is by far the best forum I've found for my Disco. I had actually found that tech. report and printed it.

Interestingly enough, the windows decided to work two days later but I made the mistake of leaving one rear window down and today, of course, it won't go back up.

I may have found a cheaper work around solution - Atlantic British sells an ECU by-pass for the rear windows. I don't know how it works....it lookslike a cable with a fitting on either end. They say it comes with instructions and is only $14.95. I'll let you know if and how it works. If it doesn't, I'll pull the ECU and see if I can determine whether I can resolder the connection or if it needs replaced.

I would like to know if you get the cable let me how it works.

I pulled mine apart a few years ago and fixed the Window ecu
but the first time I went off road it was back to the 5min wait before
the rear windows would work.

So if the cable bypasses it ecu I think I'm game.

Good Rovering
