The roof of my D2 has taken a beating with sun damage over last 5 years (since before I owned it actually) and its getting worse. I need a re-spray.

Ball park guess, how much it might be?

Any recommendations of places to take it?

 

Colour is monte carlo blue.

 

Price is dependent on where you take it to. A national chain will be less expensive than one that is certified through Porsche. I recommend calling two or three places, take your truck there and have them give you a quote. Could be anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a couple thousand dollars.

 

Hard to give a recommendation when we don't have a clue where you are.

It's not sun damage. The paint is defective. If you spray on top of the existing paint, it will fail again very rapidly. It needs to be sanded and re-primed before you spray.

I only lightly wet-sanded and sprayed my roof (DIY with automotive lacquer) on top of the defective factory paint, and it failed within a couple months. The originally defective areas came back in the exact same spots. They need to be completely removed with sanding and re-primed.

 

Sounds about right for Land rover. defective bloody paint... why am I not surprised???

You are talking about a 13yo vehicle that is in the US so 20 billion times more sun than the UK so it is in fact sun damage not defective paint, plenty of D1/D2's here with perfect paint because they were looked after or garaged.

 

I have another make that is just as old and always parked outside. I've owned it since new. It doesn't fit in any garage I've had so it has always been outside. There's not a square inch of clearcoat failure on it. The Rover's hood and roof failed more than 6 years ago.
