Default series 2 disintegrating shaf nuts

Hi, I have a series 2/3 (not sure) and i have a problem with the rear prop shaft. the nuts which secure the shaft to the handbrake drum keep getting chewed away not sure how to explain it but it seems like they are touching metal all the time and get eaten away...... i used lock nuts, small nuts but it s always the same problem... oh and when i move from a dead stop the vehicle knocks and makes very loud bangs on both 4x4 and 2x4 espectially when i m going uphill but once i start moving the noise and shaking around stops.

any suggestions????

I m thinking maybe shaft crosses?

Chock the front wheels well in front and behind.
Release the transmission brake.
Put the transfer case in neutral.
Jack up one rear wheel.
Crawl under and turn the rear propshaft by hand and see if you see the yoke hitting the nuts.

The noise starting out may be clutch judder. Try putting the transfer case in neutral, gear box in gear and letting out the clutch and see if it makes the noise. That's not definitive as there's little load on the clutch, but if it makes the noise then there's a good bet it's your clutch.
Try it both in 4th and some other gear to help to rule out gearbox problems (4th is direct).
