Cool Series Restoration Inquery

Found an old series wagon at the local junkyard, and I'm interested in buying it and restoring it. I don't know much about any of the series models nor do I know which model this one is. I'll upload some pics soon. I spoke to one of the owners and I might be able to rescue the truck for around $1,000. Ive seen tons of new and otherwise refurbished series parts available for sale in RoversNorth catalogs and elsewhere, but I have no clue how much it would cost on average to make this truck road worthy again. I imagine it depends partially on the overall condition of the vehicle and also depends on how much work I personally am willing/able to due versus having a specialist do the job. So for any of you out there who have owned and or restored a series, how much did you invest, what was it like and is it worth it?

Also I wouldn't mind some educational background and mechanical information on these series trucks, particularly the 5 door wagons.

Really depends on what it needs. Most parts are pretty expensive for a Land Rover. If you give us an idea of what needs to be done, we might be able to give you an idea of what it might cost.

From the few I have been around, ridden in and seen info on others, the main issue is whether the chassis is solid or not. RN has replacement chassis as well, so go thru their pages. But those are in the $3500 if I remember correctly.

Ten grand may get you pretty far. If you can do it all yourself. Unless you go with the upgraded optional things like heaters, the nice elephant hide seat cushions, the new canvas tops and things like that.

I only briefly looked under the bonnet but I believe the engine was still there and the wheels are still attached so I assume the axles are still on. In regards to the rust, I've seen much worse on newer vehicles and I would automatically assume the worst and just invest in one of those new fully galvanized chassis. I noted that the steering wheel is on the left side and the components directly behind the steering wheel are gutted or otherwise ripped out. I took pics with a friends iPod touch but can't figure out how to send them to my device so I'll have to go back and take more pics for you guys. Anything specifically I should take pics of to help determine if it's worth buying the truck? I'll keep you posted.

Look at the front bulk head, it tends to rust very badly.
Gauges can be had off of e-bay.
Alot of parts will be hard to find and expensive, but if you have nothing but time it might be a good project.
$1000 seems steep to me though, you can buy a rough but running one for about $3000 and that will be cheaper to get back on the road.
