Default setting up trailer hitch and lights

dumb question, but I am about to start towing a trailer and need help with the light connection. I would like to do it myself. What do I need / look for?

Go to Atlantic British and buy a trailor conversion wiring package, install it.

I got one of the universal ones from Autozone and spliced them in. The trailer light didn't illuminate inside, but everything else worked just fine. Towed my firebird back from Phoenix with no problem. I just used a test light to find out what each wire did.

For what it is worth, you get what you pay for and the universal kits are junk, they are no plug in, they don't access the extra power needed to run extra trailor lights.

I'm not saying they are a permanent solution, I just needed lights for one trip. I removed it afterwords because my truck is picky. Anything more than that, I would say get the correct plug in. Ebay currently has one.
