Snorkel for LRD1 installed on LRD2 - Help!
Found a great deal on a 2001 D2 SD and the owner said he bolted the snorkel but didn't have time to finish it off. I'm thinking how hard could it be to swap some parts and bolt it on? Turns out he bought a D1 Safari Snorkel, chopped up the D2 to mount it, then realized the hoses inside not only are the wrong size, but they are also in the wrong place! The truck came with a box of spare parts and in the box are several 3" vinyl hoses. It seems he was going to try to jerry-rig something.
A couple of questions I have.
First, does anyone have both a D1 and D2 with snorkels and can confirm that if I bought a D2 snorkel it would basically plug and play with the drilled holes in the D2? Obviously, the intake hole is in a different location and I will have to deal with that, but if the mounting holes lined up, that would at least cut down the amount of additional work I would have to do to rectify this. Or does someone know of a few parts I could buy to make this work? The vinyl hose parts he bought are too large and too floppy to work in this tight space.
Second, assuming I'm looking at a complete redo (bond the old holes, drill new holes, hope it all goes well), should I just abandon the snorkel and leave it for show, but install some other kind of air intake? Right now the intake for the D2 is kind of not really sealed since the D1 snorkel is pushed back about 3 inches towards the windshield leaving a gap. The nut for the intake that's closer to the bumper is attached still, the other one is gone (cut out).
Any thoughts are appreciated. Crappy photos attached. If you need other photos let me know.
Thanks so much!
