Default starter on 89 classic

I have an 89 classic. I repaced the original starter because at times it would work and some times I would turn the key 10 -15 times then it would turn over and start. No problems for 6-8 weeks. On Sunday turned the key and no starter. I looked over a wiring diagram and saw that there is a starter relay. So I pulled it and traded with the a/c relay to see if that would work but still no starter. Cuold the new starter have a problem? Looking for some help.

Sure it could have a problem. Did you install a new or a rebuilt starter? If it was a rebuilt, they fail alot because of the quality of the rebuild.
Other then that, ignition switch, solenoid, wiring and wiring coul be causing your problem.

I put in a new after market starter. When I turn the key I can hear a click from a relay around the front seat could that be the fuel pump relay? Can you give me an idea of what to look at next? Does it have a neuteral safety switch?
