This weekend I had my 2001 Disc II in a position where it was basically balanced on the right front and left rear tires. At that point I lost traction and the left front and right rear tires were spinning. I thought with the traction control that wasn't supposed to happen.

 

I jacked up the RF and the LR and discovered there is no traction control at these all. A little reading and i learned there is an ABS light and a TC light on the dash that are supposed to cycle on for a few seconds wjen you first turn on the ign. Neither of these are coming on at all.

 

If your TC, ABS and HDC lights are not coming on in the "self test" when you first turn the key on the LED bulbs have been broken.
If those lights are on you will NOT have traction control.
Many a Rover buyer have been taken by this trick of breaking the bulbs.
You can buy a used instrument cluster for like $50, install it and then have the dealer match the odometer on the "new" cluster to the trucks internal odometer, then you can work on fixing the "3 Amigo's".

 

Make sure the used cluster has less miles than your car. They can only sync the odometer "up"

Before you do anything, is your service engine light on, if so, go to your local parts store and have them read the codes for free then get back to us with the fault code numbers. Next you should pull the cluster and see what has been done to your warning lights. If you need a replacement call Paul Grant, his number is in my signature section, he will sell you a good guaranteed used one to replace yours. As for the mileage, don't worry about it cause your BCU stores it and will reset the numbers on your replacement.
Then it is time to tackle your 3 amigo issue, you will need a 3 amigo scanner cause most other scanners can not read and clear the codes once you have had the ABS issue repaired.

 

This is bad information. It may be true with a NEW cluster (not sure... never considered using one) but it is certainly not how a used cluster works. If you put a cluster in with different miles than the BCU has stored, the cluster will still display the miles IT has recorded and will blink because it doesn't match what the BCU has stored.

 

I just made a phone call to confirm what I posted before and they agreed, a used cluster will work and the original mileage should be able to show up on the used cluster after you resink it to also stop it from flashing. I don't see any reason why you can install a new one and set it up to communicate with the BCU and not a used one.
