Transmission code, limp mode
The 2003 Disco I bought for my daughter intermittently flashed the S and M lights on the dash and goes into limp home mode. It only happens after shifting into reverse though. I have been told it could be related to a low voltage issue with the battery.
After stopping, turning off the rover and restarting, it clears the lights and the limp mode.Any thoughts?

have the alternator and battery system checked for free at an auto parts store. is the CEL on? if so have them read that as well and get the 4 digit code and bring all the data back. it could be something as easy as a low voltage problem but it could be a problem with the tranny.
Yes the CEL is on, and the code was Catalytic Converter. I had the tranny codes read while they were flashing and it said position malfunction.
I have not had the alt and battery checked. I'll do that right now and report back.
Thanks,

Thanks,
Mike,
Went to the parts store and even though the battery is only two years old, their tester showed it was bad. Only 11.9 volts. I will have it replaced tomorrow under warranty. I shifted the Rover while there causing the M and S lights to flash while he had it on the reader. It showed code 705.
I'll let you know after I replace the battery if it still throws the code, but if so, what is 705?

Bad News! Installed the new battery and cleaned the terminals. Then cranked the Rover and shifted into reverse. It throws the same codes and goes into limp home mode.
So I am guessing it is the shift position sensor on the tranny at the end of the shifter cable? and if so, where is the best place to get the part?
