Default Transmission Temp Warning light.

Hi guys, merry Christmas and happy new year in advance. I have my transmission temperature warning light on whenever I am driving on hot afternoon but it does not come on in the morning or evening when the weather is not hot. I have changed the oil and this light still come on. So yesterday I scanned my truck and P1884 was pulled out. Please guy what does this code mean and what do I need to do to rectify this anomaly?

Thanks and your response is highly valued.

1st let's deal with the light. *check fluid levels*
there is a sensor on the cooler on the right hand side of the grill. it is accessible through the air deflector behind the grill. the other is on the outside of the transfer case. the tcase one has 2 single wire plugs. when light is on unplug the 2 wires and see if it goes out.

1884 can be a few things. it is generic for tranny problems.
-one possibility is invalid engine air intake temp.
many more are listed

Also, depending on the year, I believe they did away with the sensor on the case. I think my 2003 just had those two spade connectors dangling somewhere.

Some suggest that the oil cooler delete was an upgrade

Don't have to worry about the lines leaking, and also there is some suggestion that the oil takes too long to get up to temperature because there isn't a thermostat on it. See post #4 here from seventyfive: oil cooler line fitting thread size - DiscoWeb Message Boards

Many thanks for all your inputs. What is CAN? Is it a part I can change? Some pictures will surely help, with these pictures I can easily tell my mechanic where to look.

CAN is Controller Area Network. It is basically the system of linked computers on the vehicle: engine computer to transmission computer to body computer, etc.
